Vietnamese authors win Asia's children book award

A pair of Ho Chi Minh City-based writer and illustrator has won the grand prize of Asia's first-ever competition for unpublished children picture books with Asian themes. 
"The First Journey" by Phung Nguyen Quang, 26, and Huynh Kim Lien, 23, beat 135 other entries from all over the region to claim the highest prize of the Scholastic Picture Book Award.
The winning book, which features the first trip of a Vietnamese boy along the Mekong River, is set to be published by Scholastic Asia, one of the world's biggest publishers and distributors of children books.
Indonesian and Mongolian works were named the first and second runners-up.
Co-founded by Scholastic Asia and the National Book Development Council of Singapore, the award is set to be presented biennially to encourage more Asian-themed content for children books.
