Vietnamese Australian singing star launches music academy in HCMC

Thanh Bui, a Vietnamese Australian singer who shot to fame with a top 8 spot in the 2008 Australian Idol contest, has officially launched a music school called Soul Academy on Pasteur Street in Ho Chi Minh City.

The singer songwriter, whose real name is Bui Vu Thanh, said he wants to share his knowledge and passion for music with the younger generation in Vietnam. At the launching ceremony on July 1, Bui also announced that he will offer some full and partial scholarships for local young talents every year.

Bui, 29, has achieved almost iconic status with several of his own compositions becoming hits, including Lang tham mot tinh yeu (I'm forbidden) and Tinh ve noi dau (Where do we go.)

The Soul Academy, focusing on training in piano, violin, vocal music and opera, is a member of the Soul Entertainment Corporation operated by Bui and some of his friends like songwriter and music producers Duong Khac Linh, Trieu Yen.

Linh is known as one of the most skillful music and cinema producers and managers with his Early Risers Media Company.

The new-born entertainment corporation includes Soul Production, Soul Artist Development and Soul Record Label.
