Vietnamese action star Ngo Thanh Van, who has played some of the most kick-ass female characters over the past few years, is going to make her Hollywood debut.
Van will appear in "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny,” due to be released next month, as an assassin named Mantis.
The new film, which tells a story of love and redemption around a legendary sword, has released official posters featuring Van, also known as Veronica Ngo, along with big Asian stars Donnie Yen, Michelle Yeoh and Harry Shum Jr.
"It's a small supporting role so I'm very proud and happy when the producers gave me a character poster," she told Thanh Nien.
The former model is one of seven cast members promoted with individual posters.
The Chinese-American production is the sequel to Ang Lee's “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” (2000), which is the most successful Chinese-language film to date. It won four Oscars including Best Foreign Language Film.
Woo Ping Yuen is the director of the sequel.
China Film Group and The Weinstein Company are among the producers. They have inked a historic deal with Internet TV service Netflix to distribute the movie online around the same time it reaches theaters, on February 18 in Hong Kong and February 26 in the United States.
