Vietnamese acrobats win silver medals at int'l circus festival

Two Vietnamese acrobats from the Ho Chi Minh Circus Troupe have won silver medals at the International Circus Festival held in Spain from February 21-25, news website Vietnamplus reported Saturday.


For their performance of  Đu chồng Ä‘ầu, which means the flying trapeze act, Hoang An and Thu Hiep were awarded the prize.


Russian acrobat Yana Serdyukova also won a silver medal at one of the festival's events, while another Russian acrobat and a Chinese acrobat grabbed gold medals. Canadian and Russian acrobats won bronze medals.

The festival, which attracted around 23,000 people, saw 27 performances by representatives of 14 countries, including the United States, Russia, China, Brazil, Japan, Vietnam, Canada, Chile, Mexico, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Colombia, Argentina and Spain.

In September 2012, the flying trapeze act by Hoang Anh and Thu Hiep won the Silver Bear award at the Nikulin International Circus Festival and the Golden Horse award at the Almaty-Kazakhstan International Circus Festival.

Earlier,Thu Hiep won two prizes at the Figueres International Circus Festival in Spain for her tightrope-walking act, and the flying trapeze act performed by Hoang An and Thu Hiep won the silver medal at the Southeast Asian Circus Festival.

The two artists also performed those acts at the 11th Moscow International Youth Circus Festival in Russia.
