Vietnam's central coast Ninh Thuan Province will be the next host for the Miss Earth contest in 2012.
The beauty pageant, first held in 2001, aims to promote global environmental awareness and protection.
Recently, chairman of Thanh Nien Media Corp. Nguyen Cong Khe and the provincial authorities of Ninh Thuan Province signed a contract of being the host nation with Carousel Productions Inc., which founds the international beauty contest.
An auditorium called "Stage of Beauty" with a 2,000 seating capacity will be built in Ninh Thuan province to serve the contest. It is also the best of its kind in Southeast Asia.
After Vietnam, Thailand will be the host country for the Miss Earth 2013 competition; disastrous flooding this year prevented the country from hosting the event sooner.
The contest then will return to its homeland Manila, the Philippines. Miss Ecuador, 23-year-old Olga Alava, was crowned Miss Earth 2011 at a coronation ceremony held at the University of the Philippines Theatre on December 3.
In 2007, Vietnam was chosen to organize the supporting event "Miss Fashion" in the pageant.
Three years later, Vietnam's Nha Trang City officially hosted Miss Earth 2010, at which Miss India Nicole Faria won.
