Vietnam took a gold and a silver medal a
t the fifth ASEAN International Concerto Competition in Jakarta last month.
Tran My Dung, 9, won in the violin competition's Category A for under-13-year-old participants, while Nguyen Duc Hung, 16, who also plays violin, came second in Category B for those between 13 and 17 years old, Vietnamnet reported Sunday.
The competition took place July 20-27 in Indonesia's capital.
Dung and Hung are students at the Vietnam National Academy of Music.
Vietnam did not compete in Category C for those between 18 and 24 this year.
Founded in 2005, the ASEAN International Concerto Competition is a biennial event of violin and piano competitions for young instrumentalists.
This year's competition attracted contestants from countries including China, Indonesia, South Korea, Japan, New Zealand and Vietnam.
According to the competition's website, each category has six finalists in maximum and they all receive a certificate of merit for their performances.
Several Vietnamese took medals in 2009 and 2011.
