Saf Viet, a subsidiary of the French-based yeast and breadmaking Lesaffre Company, has announced the first-ever national bakery contest in Vietnam.
The Louis Leasaffre Cup Vietnam challenges bakers from all over the country to submit their bready delights. The entries are divided into three: baguettes & special breads; Viennese bread & Danishes; and Artistic Pieces.
The entries will be evaluated by a jury in Ho Chi Minh City on August 25, and Hanoi on August 28, according to a press release issued Thursday.
The nation's twelve best bakers will face off in a final round this December.
The top three from that competition will form a team that will compete in an international contest next May in Guangzhou, China, the statement said.
Bakers from Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, and Indonesia are expected to participate in the event as well. The two winning teams from the pan-Asian competition will go on to the Bakery World Cup in Paris in 2012.
The last Louis Leasaffre Cup in 2006-2007 involved 40 countries, with 90 selection rounds and a total of 6000 candidates, according to the statement, adding that this was the third time Lesaffre Company has held the event.
