Vietnam film takes two prizes at California film fest

Director Cuong Ngo's Ngoc Vien Dong (Pearls of the Far East) won prizes for best cinematography and best music at the 14th California Independent Film Festival on February 11, Tuoi Tre newspaper has reported.

Ngoc Vien Dong tells the story of the lives and forbidden loves of seven different women living in very different circumstances. Each story takes place in famous Vietnamese locales like Sa Pa, Phan Thiet and Hoi An.

This film's script was based on a series of short stories by writer/director Nguyen Thi Minh Ngoc.

Ngoc Vien Dong stars famous Vietnamese actresses Nhu Quynh, Hong Anh, Truong Ngoc Anh and Ngo Thanh Van, who were willing to act for free in order to be part of the project.

This film is set to be released in Vietnam in March.
