The Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam has announced it is accepting entries from local manga artists for the 5th International Manga Awards from now until August 31.
The award was first organized in 2006 to share Japanese pop culture and promote understanding of Japan, and to honor the contributions of those who have made the art popular the world over.
One Golden Prize and three Silver Prizes will be awarded this year.
The trophy, created by graphic designer Taku Satoh, shapes four connected "speech bubbles."
The call for entries in Vietnam was issued by Embassy of Japan in Vietnam and the Consulate-General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City.
Artists of selected entries will be invited to Japan to attend in the award ceremony, meet with Japanese Manga artists and visit publishing companies.
More information and conditions can be found in English and Japanese at www.manga-award.jp or obtained from the Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam (27 Quang Trung, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi.)
