A swinging performance has won the first gold medal ever for Vietnam's circus at an international festival, Vietnam Circus Union has said.
The "Superman Swing" act was also voted "the most popular act" by 10,000 audience members at the third annual International Circus Festival in Spain.
Eight young artists from Vietnam Circus Union swung and somersaulted 15-18 meters above the ground.
The performers were not only praised for their technique and trapeze work, but also their display of traditional Vietnamese traditions and culture.
They had been practicing the act from late 2007 to September 2008, but this was the first time they performed it overseas. The festival attracted more than 80 artists from 15 countries and territories. A total of 24 acts performed between February 14- 25 in Albacete.
Another gold medal was granted to Mongolian artists, union director Vu Ngoan Hop said.
