Pham Tuan Tu's painting "In front of the mirror" (Truoc guong) wins the Danish-funded Talent Prize 2010.

With four transgender themed paintings, a 29-year-old artist from Hanoi has won the public vote for a Danish-funded talent competition.

Pham Tuan Tu has won US$1,000 in cash and will have his solo exhibition funded by the Danish Cultural Development and Exchange Fund as the winner of its Talent Prize 2010.

Launched in May, the competition drew the participation of nearly 700 artists under 35 years of age, eight of whom were later shortlisted for the final by a panel of judges.

The finalists then displayed their works at an exhibition in Hanoi last month and the public was asked to vote for the winner on the contest's website.

An annual award, CDEF's Talent Prize aims to encourage young talents in various fields of art and support Vietnam's contemporary art scene.
