A tourist complex featuring reproductions of villages inhabited by the nation's 54 ethnic minority tribes has opened early in Hanoi.

Covering a total area of 1,544 hectares, the Vietnamese Peoples' Culture Tourism Village also includes replications of world heritage sites, a cultural and entertainment center, and a floating park.

While the village, started in 2003, was expected to become fully operational in 2015, it was partially opened on Sunday in celebration of Hanoi's 1,000 year anniversary.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, and other high-ranking officials were joined by foreign ambassadors at the opening ceremony, which was held in Son Tay Town's Dong Mo.
