Six days after a teary press conference in which Phuong Uyen argued that she had been framed by the clever editing of a video showing her fixing the results of a reality show, the famous singer and songwriter has resigned as music director of Giong Hat Viet (The Voice Vietnam).

At the conference on September 11, two days after the video had gone viral, and Uyen said she had already sent her letter of resignation to the Cat Tien Sa Company (CATS), the VTV show's producer.

But CATS Director Nguyen Quang Minh said the company had rejected her resignation and that she would remain on the show.

Uyen said at the press conference that she had been betrayed by a close friend who carefully edited the clip, transforming what she said from something innocuous to something sinister.

The press conference was criticized by the public as a sham plea, and this week Uyen told Thanh Nien that she has talked to her family and decided to resend in her resignation to CATS on September 17.

Minh, who had told the press conference that Uyen would be kept at her position, told Thanh Nien more recently that it was time to let Uyen go.

Uyen maintains her innocence and said that current health issues do not allow her to work under pressure.

She plans to continue her singing and songwriting career.

"Furthermore, I will help the contestants since I love them," she said.

The scandal has led to a huge public boycott of the show, with local audiences saying the show was deceitful and disrespectful towards them.

Uyen has said the composer and producer Hoai Sa should replace her, and CATS is now considering the replacement.
