One week after she sued the organizers, Duong Thi Hong Nhung, winner of last year's Vietnam Superstar talent contest, received official notification that her US$10,000 prize money would be paid this Sunday.

Nhung won the contest on November 7, but the singer and actress had not been paid her prize money two months down the line. After negotiations with the competition's organizers for over a month failed to resolve matters, Nhung decided to take the Ho Chi Minh City Cultural Center - one of the organizers - to court.

Explaining the delay in awarding the prize money, the center's director Nguyen Huu Nghi said that Nhung was not "suitable" for the award because she was engaged to be married. The organizers had then suggested the prize money be split between Nhung and the first and second runners up.

But now they've decided to give Nhung the entire prize money on January 24, Nghi said. Along with the money would be details of the plan for the training course in South Korea for the winner.
