Goc pho danh vong (Corner of Fame), a blend of music, dance and soliloquy, will be shown in Hanoi from August 13 to 16
Goc pho danh vong (Corner of Fame), a blend of music, dance and soliloquy, will be presented at the Hanoi-based center of French culture, L'Espace, from August 13 to 16.
The performance is the creation of young artists studying theater and cinema in Singapore and the United States.
Nguyen Phi Anh, aka PPan, who is implementing the project with his colleagues, said he wants to clarify that the performances will not be on the lines of famous Broadway musicals as some local newspapers have mentioned earlier.
"We have made up a new story for the two-hour performance of which the most important part is music. The music and sounds are chosen from famous soundtracks and the songs match the storyline. We also write Vietnamese lyrics for the melodies," Anh said.
The 21-year-old director said he and his crew auditioned young amateur actors and volunteers. Goc pho danh vong is a nonprofit project which aims to reach out to young audiences and honor various experimental art values, he said.
"Although we take young and inexperienced members, quality is always our priority," said Anh.
Anh said he did not want to reveal the storyline of the musical, as it will be a big surprise for the audience. However, he said that the play will focus on young people and their aspirations, which will be depicted from different critical perspectives. The "dark side of life" will also be alluded to in the play, he said.
"We believe that it will be fresh and interesting for the youth to tell their stories themselves."
Tickets for Goc pho danh vong, priced from VND150,000 (US$7.5) to VND250,000 (US$12.5) depending on seat location, can be obtained by calling Huong at 0166 729 5388 or Linh at 0916 483 839.
