A solo painting exhibition by artist Ton That Bang called "Stories of leaves and flowers" opened August 4 at the Tu Do Art Gallery in Ho Chi Minh City.

The exhibition displays 20 oil on canvas paintings which are the results of the artist's focus on the subject of childhood and destiny.

A gallery press release describes his work as a "curious fusion of reality and puerile dreaminess, often expressed through childlike-looking people, awkward postures (the innocent victims of destiny), wooden horses (the vision of life through children's eyes), dice (the game of destiny) and leaves (the passage of time and its accompanying loss).

"All of the images are formed with only a few simple lines and patches of plain colors... . Even the composition seems spontaneous, implicating a natural, hit-or-miss arrangement."

Painter and musician Ton That Bang was born in 1964 in the central province of Quang Tri.

Prior to "Stories of leaves and flowers", he has held several solo and group exhibitions in Vietnam and abroad, including Belgium, Hong Kong, Singapore, the US, Australia, and the UK.

Tu Do Art Gallery is located on 53 Ho Tung Mau Str, Dist 1, HCMC. The exhibition will remain open until Aug 28.
