Hand-made from nearly a thousand meters of silk and affixed with a virtual galaxy of diamonds and gold, designer Vo Viet Chung's unprecedented ao dai is set to enter the Book of Vietnam Records this October 4.

The idea for the special tunic first flashed through Chung's mind in 2007. The dress features nine layers of gold-embroidered silk totaling 100 meters in length.

Chung's dress is accompanied by a traditional piece of headgear studded with 2,000 diamonds worth up to VND1.2 billion.

According to Chung, Miss Vietnam 2006 Mai Phuong Thuy will model the dress at the White Palace in HCMC, next month. The garment will then travel to Hanoi on October 5 where it will be displayed in honor of the Capital's 1,000th anniversary and then travel abroad.
