The nation's premier cultural event, Charming Vietnam, will move away from its usual haunts of major national hubs and cast its ritzy glow on the central province of Phu Yen later this month.
Locating the March 20-21 gala in a province that has recently experienced a natural calamity gives the event the wider base it has always sought, said Nguyen Cong Khe, head organizer of the event and chairman of Thanh Nien Media Corporation.
The offer of the provincial government to host this show is a great chance for its organizers to fulfill their dream of bringing the event to many different regions of the country, he added.
After focusing on popularizing Vietnamese culture abroad, the event will penetrate deeper into the country, Khe said.
This concert also marks the beginning of the event going biannual, he noted.
The absence of some local leading stars for private reasons gives the opportunity for talented young artists to showcase their talent and make their mark in the industry, as others have done earlier, Khe said.
"Many artists, both those are close to Duyen Dang Viet Nam (Charming Vietnam) and those that are not have told me that this show takes a special place in their hearts, although the fees they receive is not much. More than a high-end entertainment event, it is a major charity event, with scholarships given to underprivileged students nationwide" Khe said.
Along with the change in location comes innovation in arranging ideas and stage scripts. The man in charge of all these tasks is noted director Nguyen Quang Dung, who has generated many local blockbusters.
"There will be some new features to strengthen the quality of the show. With the show-house consisting of 3,600 seats in the Sao Mai Theater, our crew has large enough space to carry out our ideas. This is the first format made for television broadcasting, (the show will be aired live on March 21), and we will focus on hi-tech imagery to boost the music and fashion performances" said Dung.
Dung said the show, which will open with a fashion show accompanied by live music, will have three parts, revolving around the close relationship between man and the sea.
The event is titled Nhip tho bien (ocean's breath).
The latest gala will be different from previous ones in the mixing of different music genres. Rocker Viet Thanh with guitarist and keyboard player from his noted band "UnlimiteD", and beat boxer Minh Kien will perform together.
Le Kim Anh, vice chairman of the Phu Yen People's Committee, said hosting a most prestigious cultural event like Duyen Dang Viet Nam will be a short in the arm for the province.
Tickets to the show, which range from VND200,000 (US$10.7) to VND2,000,000 ($107), are on sale at Thanh Nien Media Corp (2 Cao Thang Street, District 3, HCMC) and Thuan Thao Company (3 Hai Duong Street, Tuy Hoa Town, Phu Yen Province).
