More than 800 works of fine art are on display at the Hanoi-based Exhibition Center for Vietnam's Culture and Arts until Dec 5, 2010.

The national fine arts exhibition, held every five years by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and Vietnam Fine Arts Association (VFAA), features the best among local fine arts over the past five years.

Of the 5,000 entries received this year, the VFAA has selected 836 works by 757 artists nationwide to showcase a comprehensive view of indigenous fine arts in the 2006-2010 period.

According to Tran Khanh Chuong, chairman of VFAA, the exhibition plays an important role in keeping fine arts alive in the Reformation Period (1986 to present), and showcasing the diverse styles of local artists, especially the young ones, whose works overwhelm this year's exhibition.

Up for grabs are three gold medals, six silver medals, nine bronze medals and 30 consolation prizes for the best fine arts exhibits.

The exhibition will come to Ho Chi Minh City-based Fine Arts Museum January 10-26, 2011.
