A monodrama in Hanoi marked the Luxembourg National Day (June 23) celebrations in Vietnam.
The solo performance by Luxembourg director and actor Steve Karier at the Hanoi Youth Theater today (June 24) is based on two monodramas by Iraqi writer Nahidh al-Ramadhani. The play, "Swimming to Iraq," is a story about the horrors of war and how conflicts that may seem far away are actually closer than we think.
According to Steve Karier, voted among the best actors of the year in 1996 by German magazine Theater Heute, the story and content of this play are completely different from the European stories he has told so far, and he felt compelled to perform one of Nahidh's plays.
The play presents the complexity, the strangeness, the imperatives of story-telling, and the need and importance to try and understand different cultures and events as well.
Since 2009, Steve Karier has been well-established in Luxembourg as a freelance actor, director and a professor for verbal communication.
The play will be presented in English at 8 p.m. at 11 Ngo Thi Nham Street, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi.
