Vietnam has selected the first runner-up of last year's Miss Vietnam competition to represent the nation at this year's Miss Universe contest in Brazil.

Pham Dinh Thang, deputy director of the Performing Arts Department told news website VnExpress that his agency had officially authorized Vu Thi Hoang My, 23, to represent Vietnam at the world beauty contest.

Born in the southern Province of Dong Nai, in 1988, My stands 1.71 meter tall and has stunning measurements (85-65-89). She is currently a student at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University (RMIT).

Though My does not possess an ideal height, she has been lauded for her charming beauty, modelling experience, and excellent English skills.

My told Thanh Nien she has been studying up on Brazil and its people.

She has been practicing Portuguese and hopes to be able to engage in light conversation by the time she travels to Brazil, in August, three weeks before the final round of the Miss Universe competition.

The 60th Miss Universe pageant will be held in São Paulo, the largest city in Brazil. More than 80 beauty queens will travel to the sprawling metropolis, to participate in the event. The contest's final round will take place on September 12.
