This August, 35 young women from all over Vietnam will compete in the Miss Sport Contest 2012 in the central port city of Da Nang.

Auditions for this year's competition were held in Da Nang, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City from April to June.

The contest, which was first organized in 1993, has returned this year after a long hiatus.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism oversaw the contest every two years until 1997, when the organizers put it on hold.

Thu Huong (Miss Sport 1995 and the first runner-up of Mrs World 2011) now sits on the organizing board.

The contestants are self-motivated, confident and athletic, she said.

The girls will vie for the crown and a total of VND1 billion (US$4,800) in prize money.

Nguyen Hong Minh, deputy president of the organizing board, said that the judges will evaluate each contestant's figure, athletic prowess, costume and her ability to answer questions.

The final round of the contest is due to take place on August 5 in Ba Na Hills, Da Nang.
