Contestants from 33 different ethnic communities are competing in the semifinal round of the second Miss Ethnic Vietnam pageant this month and next month, Tuoi Tre newspaper reported.
According to organizers, the National Committee for Ethnic Minorities and Ciat Company, 147 contestants have been selected for the semifinal competition in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
The competition in the capital began November 1 and continues until November 5, featuring 60 beauty queens from the northern region. HCMC will host the pageant November 12-15, showcasing 87 competitors from the southern, central and central highland areas.
The semifinal includes a Q&A as well as the traditional costumes, bikini, and body measurement competitions.
The finals will be held in HCMC from November 26 to December 11. The event will include three top prizes - "Miss Ethnic Vietnam," and the first and second runner-ups - as well as awards in other categories: friendliness, beauty, best body, most beautiful hair, most talented and best answer.
Miss Ethnic Vietnam was first held in 2007 and attracted 600 candidates from 25 ethnic minorities. Nguyen Thi Hoang Nhung of the Tay ethnic community in the northern province of Thai Nguyen was crowned the first Miss Ethnic Vietnam.
