Miss Earth 2010 will be held from November 4 to December 4 in Vietnam, according to a press conference held in Ho Chi Minh City on August 25.
The press conference was attended by Miss Earth 2009 Larissa Ramos from Brazil, Miss Earth Philippines 2009 Sandra Seifert and Miss Earth Philippines 2010 Psyche Resus.
According to organizers (Thanh Nien Media Corporation and Philippines-based Carousel Productions Corporation) 90 candidates will compete in the beauty campaign, whose purpose is to promote environmental conservation.
This year's contestants will model ao dai in a section of the contest, the Filipino organizer told Thanh Nien in an interview on August 23.
Ramon Monzon, president of Carousel Productions, Inc. which began organizing the pageant in 2000, said that future host countries will have their traditional clothing featured in the contest. On Monday, Filipino and Vietnamese organizers met to discuss future contests.
The two sides considered bilingual emcees, time limits on contestant answers, international celebrity guests and judges.
According to Nguyen Cong Khe, chairman of Thanh Nien Media Corporation, the Vietnamese Miss Earth contestant will be chosen from the award winners of the Miss Vietnam and Miss Vietnam World competitions.
"She may not be a winner, but we're looking for a contestant with profound knowledge of environmental issues and excellent English language skills," Khe said at a Miss Earth press conference held on August 25.
Environmentally-themed activities and charity events will be held in four of Vietnam's major tourist destinations - Ho Chi Minh City, Phan Thiet, Nha Trang and Hoi An - during the month-long competition.
