A local adaptation of famous reality TV game show "The Amazing Race" will be aired from May 18 to August 10, 2012.

The adaptation rights for the Emmy award winning have been obtained by Vietnam Television and BHD Company with Disney Media Distribution. The Vietnamese "Amazing Race" competition will have 10 two-member teams who use different vehicles to overcome varied unknown challenges on a one-month journey through 11 cities and provinces.

One team will be eliminated at 8 Pit Stops. The champion will receive a prize of VND300 million (US$14,430).

Ngo Thi Bich Hanh, director of the BHD Company, said that the difficulties involved in making the show did not discourage but added to their elation.

Famous overseas Vietnamese actor Dustin Nguyen will be part of the show as both director and host. He will accompany the contestants in their challenges and pick them up at each stopover.

Nguyen said the exhilarating and adventurous action scenes have made him eager to participate in the show, which will be filmed from April 2 to May 2. The show will be produced in 13 episodes.

The organizers will call for applications from prospective contestants in mid-March. The applicants must be over 18 and healthy enough to cope with the assigned tasks.

The original version of "The Amazing Race" debuted on CBS in September 2001.
