Vietnamese singer Duc Tuan (L) and Filipino singer Joanna Ampil sing the duet 'All I Ask of You' from "˜Phantom of the Opera' at a concert in Ho Chi Minh City last March
Vietnamese pop star Duc Tuan, known for his crossover into Broadway show tunes, will perform with Filipino singers at a concert in Manila next week.
The "Vietnam Philippines Friendship Concert" will take place on August 28 at Sofitel Philippines Plaza Hotel in the capital.
The event is held by the Vietnamese Embassy in the Philippines to celebrate the 67th Vietnam National Day on September 2.
Nguyen Vu Tu, Vietnamese ambassador to the Philippines, said that the concert will bring Vietnamese music to the local public.
Tu also hoped that the concert would be a springboard leading to further artistic collaborations between the two countries.
Tuan said the concert was a good chance for him to expand his horizons.
Tuan recently had a chance to perform with singer Joanna Ampil and soprano Rachelle Gerodias, both from the Philippines, in concerts held in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City last March.
This time, Tuan will join with the two Filipino singers to perform extracts from "West Side Story," "Phantom of the Opera," and "Man of La Mancha."
Renowned Vietnamese violinist Bui Cong Duy will also harmonize with pianist Raul Sunico in a Vietnamese piece titled Nho Que (Missing the Homeland) and the Filipino work "Hatinggabi" (Midnight).
The orchestra will be led by Japanese conductor Tetsuji Honna, who has been at the post of music advisor and conductor of the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra since 2001.
