Korean mania kicks off his charity tour in Vietnam

Noted South Korean singer and actor Kim Hyun-joong arrived in Vietnam to a tumultuous welcome as he started his first ever charity tour in the country  August 10-12.

Hundreds of fans dressed in similar  balloons and luminous torches waited for  hours to welcome their idol at HCMC's Tan San Nhat Airport.

But their hopes of being the first ones to meet and pose for photos with the actor were belied. 

However, the fans also pursued the car that took the South Korean star to the Intercontinental Hotel.  

In past month, hundreds members of Kim's local fan pages have taken part in their idol's charity auction to raise funds for the Children Smile foundation.

On August 11 and 12,Kim is set to visit the cosmetic brand-name that he represents and meet his local fans. The next evening he will attend the auctioning of three paintings with Miss Vietnam 2006 Mai Phuong Thuy at the Queen Plaza Convention Center.

The singer turned actor was born in 1986 and started his singing career at the age of 19. He is the leading member of of idol boy band SS501, which has many K-Pop's hits.

Kim Hyun-joong shot to fame after playing Yoon Yi Hoon, one of four richest and most spoiled boys known as the F4, in the hit Korean drama series "Boys over flower."

The series, which is an adaptation of the Japanese manga Hana Yori Dango, was a huge media and ratings sensation in Korea during its run from January to March 2009.
