Jazz band from US swings into Vietnam

Five Play, a Jazz quintet from New York, will come to Vietnam on June 5 to perform throughout the country.

The band's tour is a part of a series of cultural events organized by the US Embassy and the US Consulate to promote cultural exchange and mutual understanding between the peoples of the US and Vietnam. 

On June 7, Five Play will give a free performance in Ho Chi Minh City at 8:00 pm at the Hoa Binh Theater at 240 242, 3 Thang 2 Street, District 10.

In Nha Trang, the band will perform at the Nha Trang Beach Festival at 7:30 pm on June 9, and for workers at the Suoi Dau Industrial Park at 5:00 pm on June 8.

They will also offer music classes for students in Nha Trang and then go to Hanoi, Thanh Hoa, and Vinh.

Formed in 1999, the Five Play Quintet is rooted in the American jazz tradition and is fueled and inspired by the members' collective, creative vision to swing jazz into the 21st Century.

Band members include Sherrie Maricle on drums; Tomoko Ohno on piano; Noriko Ueda on bass; Jami Dauber on trumpet and Janelle Reichman on tenor saxophone and clarinet.

The band has performed at many prestigious concert halls, music festivals, universities, and jazz clubs in the US, including Carnegie Hall and The Kennedy Center, as well as at major festivals in Israel, Japan, France, Germany, Spain and Portugal.
