Traditional Japanese solo comedy, Rakugo, will be performed in Hanoi next Tuesday and Wednesday at the Japan Foundation's Center for Culture Exchange in Vietnam.
Japanese artist Utazo Katsura will perform Rakugo next week
The comic entertainment will be performed at the center (27 Quang Trung Street), in English (Tuesday) and Japanese (Wednesday) with Vietnamese subtitles.
Rakugo originated in the 16th century and features a solo storyteller who uses a paper fan and a small cloth as props. The performer recounts long comic stories without ever rising from the traditional Japanese way of sitting.
The stories usually involve the dialogue of two or more characters whose difference are depicted via changes in pitch, tone, and slight turns of the head.
Free tickets are available at the center starting at 10 a.m. Friday.
