Il Divo lends voice to diaspora beauty contest

A multinational operatic pop vocal group, Il Divo, will perform at the finals of the Miss Vietnam World 2010 on August 21, organizers announced Friday.

 

This will the only performance of the group during their first visit to country, they said.

 

The group will arrive in Vietnam on August 19 and perform at the Vinpearl Land in the central coastal resort town of Nha Trang, where 40 women form the Vientamese diaspora gather to compete in the August 10-21 paegant.

 

Founded by famous music manager and reality TV star Simon Cowell after a worldwide search for young singers between 2001-2003, Il Divo is made up of Spanish baritone Carlos Marín, Swiss tenor Urs Bühler, American tenor David Miller, and French pop singer Sébastien Izambard.

 

Il Divo, meaning "divine male performer" in Italian, sing in English, Italian, Spanish, French, and Latin.

 

It was named the Most Multinational UK No.1 Album Group in the 2006 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records.

 

Also in 2006, the group performed the 2006 official FIFA World Cup song, The Time of Our Lives, with R&B singer Toni Braxton.
