Life is but a stage and Hoang Thuy Linh is in the limelight again.
After scandals shook her personal and professional world three years ago, the lead actress of the 2007 soap opera "Vang Anh's Diaries" is making a comeback with a debut album "Hoang Thuy Linh" to be released early March 2011.
"It is time I did something important for my career as a singer," says Linh. "The album is an intimate look at a young woman's feelings and philosophy. The music is essentially pop-dance, my favorite genre."
The 23-year-old went into virtual hiding after an online sex tape involving her riveted the country in 2007. After the cancelation of her well-received role in "Vang Anh's Diaries," where she played a high school girl torn between traditional values and youth, Linh thought her singing and acting career was over.
In a tearful farewell broadcast on national television, the young actor-singer apologized to her family and fans for failing to set a good standard for Vietnamese teenagers.
"I have learned a difficult lesson. I thought of staying away from showbiz but I need to move on with life. I have to be strong and do what I long for. I decided to get back on stage with music projects first, then I will think about other things. You know, a TV series perhaps," says Linh.
While at Hanoi's College of Art in 2005, Linh was the lead vocalist of girl band Thien Than (Angels). She scored top marks in the university entrance exam a year later.
Linh graduated in television direction from Hanoi's University of Art and Theater this summer. She hopes to fulfill her longstanding passion of directing TV dramas.
"I am just in my twenties and want to do everything. I am working really hard; I know that will make my parents happy. I still love acting but I am waiting for the right time to appear on TV again," says Linh.
Born to a classical dancer and stage actor, art runs in her blood. She confesses the scandal has made her realize her responsibilities toward her family. "My family means everything to me. I am an only child and share everything with my parents," says Linh.
Linh promises fun, fresh and exciting choreography along with
powerful songs in her debut album. "I think I am getting more mature as time goes by. But you will always feel the energy in my performances," says Linh.
The young celebrity refuses to confirm or deny rumors of wedding bells. She says she is so busy she can't be bothered with gossip.
"I have an active life," says Linh. "I have rebuilt my career and am trying to be a better person. I have the strength to overcome taboos and pressures. I still need a shoulder to lean on from time to time, but I feel great."
A second album is in the wings, as is the opportunity to star in TV shows again it seems Linh is ready to take on the world again.
"I feel inner peace. I can't let the grass grow under my feet anymore."
