The first private museum in the central province of Thua Thien Hue will be opened at Mai Thuc Loan Street in Hue Town, according to a decision by the province's People's Committee.
The museum, established by Hue researcher and artifact collector Tran Dinh Son, considered a leading expert in ceramic products of the Ly, Tran, Le, and Nguyen dynasties, will display all of his collections, the Tuoi Tre newspaper reported Friday.
The collection, including porcelain ware ordered from France in 19th and 20th century, has been displayed in Vietnam and abroad.
The museum is located in the house of Nguyen Dynasty high-ranking official Tran Dinh Ba, great grandfather of Son. After 1975, the building served as a governmental office, then a department store, but had been abandoned for the last ten years.
Son had sent several letters to ask the authorities to return the house to him for restoration and the opening of his museum.
In 2007, the committee entrusted the house to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to have it restored for tourism purposes.
