Hopefuls edge closer to Vietnam Idol

Less than 40 out of 5,000 Vietnam Idol wannabees from the north were chosen to move to the next selection round of the 2010 show last week.

They performed from July 3-7 before three judges singer Siu Black, composer Quoc Trung and director Nguyen Quang Dung.

The third season of the contest has drawn more than 22,600 audition registrations from all across the country. The first auditions will be aired on VTV6 on August 21 at 9 p.m.

Vietnam Idol was first launched in Vietnam in 2007. The second season has been delayed until late August.

The winner will receive a cash prize worth US$20,000 and a year-long record contract.
