A festival this March called “Ho Chi Minh City – Ao Dai City” will commemorate the traditional Vietnamese women’s tunic.
A contest called “Charming Ao Dai” will be held at Dam Sen Park on March 7-8 with 500 women taking part in three categories -- groups, individuals and diplomats.
A performance dubbed “Ao Dai – Eternal Beauty” is scheduled to be held at 6:30 p.m. on March 8 at the Youth Cultural House.
Tailors, companies and shopping malls will offer discounts on ao dais, cloth and accessories during the festival.
Tourists can get ao dais done in short order.
“Ao Dai City – Beloved City” will see students wearing the tunic ride bicycles from the Youth Cultural House to major destinations around the city on March 6, 13 and 20 to promote tourism.
Seminars will be held on the history of the costume, its use and cultural value.
The Fine Arts Museum will showcase different versions of the costume through history at an exhibition that will run from March 5 to 31.
A fair at the Youth Cultural House from March 18 to 20 will see the dress and accessories exhibited and sold.
The Ao Dai Museum will hold several events through March while the HCMC Library will organize an ao dai painting contest.
Organizer will host a photo contest on the garment and entries can be sent to the organizer’s website at lehoiaodaitphcm.vn from May 5 to 20. Students can take part in an ao dai design contest to be held at the same time.
There will be an ao dai decoration competition for local and international contestants on March 19-20.
