HCMC circus artists win international prizes

Young artist Thu Hien of the Ho Chi Minh City Circus Company (HCMCCC) won two prizes at the Figueres International Circus Festival held from February 30 to March 5 in Spain, the Tuoi Tre Newspaper reported Thursday.


Thu Hien won the Young Talent and Impressive Image awards for her act Day thep chung (slack steel wire), which was first performed by her at the circus play Romeo and Juliet last year in Ho Chi Minh City.


Her award winning performance has earned Hien an invitation from the Circus in France Company to perform in France for one year, starting October 15, 2012.


There were 60 artists from 12 countries and territories worldwide competing at the annual Figueres International Circus Festival 2012, dedicated to those who have never been or attended any international circus festival in Europe.


Following Day thep chung, Suc manh doi tay (the strength of hands) by two brothers Giang Quoc Co and Giang Quoc Nghiep of HCMCC has won a Silver Bear prize at the 2012 International Circus Festival in IZHEVSK, Russia.


This year's International Circus Festival, held March 5-11, attracted the participation of over 300 outstanding artists from 14 countries, including Russia, China, the US, Germany, Egypt, Japan, and Sweden.


The brothers have since been invited to attend the 2013 Monte Carlo International Circus Festival in France.


Previously, Suc manh doi tay was awarded gold medals at the 3rd International Circus Festival in Vietnam in 2010, the Grand Prix prize and a bronze medal at the International Circus Festival 2011 in the Cuban capital of Havana last August, and a silver medal and two other prizes at the 13th International Circus Festival held in Italy last October.
