Oil painting exhibition "Life Stories" by young artist Luong Trung tell different stories of Vietnam's urbanized society today

Artist Luong Trung has borrowed from the realities of the daily chaos in Vietnam's today urbanized society to make space for his art. An exhibition of his oil paintings opens December 14 in Hanoi.

"Life Stories", will be open until Dec 23 at the Nguyen An Gallery, is human stories picturing kids pushing art to sidewalks, in the alleys, lanes, on the street corners, and bus station, yet "expressing the funny and tragic to make people laugh until they cry, which can touch anyone's mind," according to a press release from the gallery.

The displayed artworks portray how rough realities of the contemporary society, for instance, Vietnam's contemporary pop art is seeing the funny, the ludicrous, the snobbish, the gap between the rich and the poor, the pollution of the environment, the decay of community culture and the tornado of urbanization and apartment buildings, the jostle and changes of the market economy "¦ haunt the purified soul and determined brush of artist, who belongs to the 1980s generation.

Trung recalls his own experience from currently living in an apartment building in an area so called "Relocated housing," where he sees people moving to their new re-settlement accommodations, trying hard to adapt with to a new culture in new living places in a pessimistic way.

"They try to live extremely personal lives, and they have to face the contradictions rising in community activities. There are different problems when people bring their family members to their new homes, to their new neighborhoods in their new living places and moreover in our new society," Trung, who was one of final contestants at the Talent Prize 2010, says in the release.

"And since moving into this new apartment house, I get new inspirations for my artwork. In my paintings, I ironically express the people with funny & ridiculous character; those could be personalization of someone who is living in current Vietnam society."

Nguyen Art Gallery is located on 31 Van Mieu Street, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi.
