Hanoi to screen Cannes winners

Some of the big winners at the Cannes Film Festival will be screened at the French cultural center in Hanoi, L'Espace.

On May 21, L'Espace will screen La classe entre les murs (The class), directed by Laurent Cantet. The film won the Golden Palm at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 2009 Academy Awards.

Olivier Assayas' Clean will air a week later. Maggie Cheung won the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Festival 2004 for her performance in this film. Director and screenwriter, Assayas, was also nominated for the Golden Palm.

On Friday, L'Espace will show documentaries made by the Cannes Festival president Gilles Jacob, featuring stories about one of the world's biggest movie events.

All films and documentaries will be shown at 8 p.m. at L'Espace, 24 Trang Tien Street, Hanoi. They will be in original format with Vietnamese subtitles. Tickets cost VND5,000 (US$0.25). The screenings coincide with the 63rd annual Cannes Festival this year, which started on May 12 and will finish on May 23.
