The 2011 National Fine Art Youth Festival will be held in Hanoi from November 10 to 20.
The quadrennial event has been co-organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam Fine Arts Association and the Thua Thien- Hue Literature and Art Association.
This year's event will incorporate work from contemporary genres like video art and body painting in addition to the traditional mediums of painting, sculpture and installation.
The organizers also plan to launch a contest for artists aged between 18 and 35.
Contestants can send photos or video clips featuring up to three works created after 2008 to the Fine Art, Photography and Exhibition Department, 38 Cao Ba Quat Street, Hanoi between August 15 and 25.
The organizers also said artists will not be permitted to display raw meat or fish at the event, to avoid the olfactory debacle that occurred at the previous contest.
The top three prizes will be awarded in cash VND20 million, VND15 million and VND10 million, respectively.
The first national Youth Fine Arts Festival, in 2007 displayed nearly 60 young artists' 30 pieces. The organizers of this year's event expect to see far more art on display.
