Hanoi Cheo Theater has planned a theatrical performance featuring a varied selection of traditional songs during the millennial anniversary of Hanoi.

The program Tray hoi mua xuan (Spring journeys) gathers many Vietnamese singing traditions including quan ho (the famous love duets from the northern province of Bac Ninh), hat xam (the ballads once sung by wandering blind musicians), ca tru (ceremonial songs), cheo (traditional operetta) and solo dan bau (monochord) performances.

Each performance will link the songs to a story that will be extolled by artists between 20-30 years old.

Materials explaining the performance will be printed in both English and Vietnamese.

The hour-long program will be performed every Monday, Wednesday and Friday starting July 30 at the Hanoi Cheo Theater: 15 Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street, Hai Ba Trung District. Tickets are on sale for VND80,000 (US$4) apiece. Tourist groups are entitled to a 15 percent discount.
