Hanoi screens select national film fest entries

Feature films competing at the 17th Vietnam National Film Festival in the central coastal province of Phu Yen in mid-December are being screened in Hanoi this week.

The December 2-8 film week, jointly organized by the Department of Cinematography and National Cinema Center, will include 17 features film produced by both state-owned and private studios, the Vietnamplus newswire reported Saturday.

Mui co chay (the smell of the burning grass) by director Nguyen Huu Muoi kicked off the event last Friday night.

The film is based on famous diaries of martyred army medic Dang Thuy Tram (1943-1970), Nguyen Van Thac and Hoang Thuong Lan, part of Mai mai tuoi 20 (Forever 20) book collection.

Other films screened during the event include local comedy blockbusters Long ruoi (Big Boss), De mai tinh (Fool for love), and Co dau dai chien (war of the brides).

Invitation tickets can be collected at the National Cinema Center in Hanoi.

This year's film festival, to be held from December 14 to 18, has received a total of 108 entries in the categories of feature films, videos, documentaries, scientific films, and animation films.

The National Cinema Center is located at 87 Lang Ha Street.
