Hanoi hosts two international film fests

Two international film festivals featuring short art movies and science films will kick off in Hanoi this week.

The 3rd Science Film Festival (SFF), co-organized by the Goethe Institute and its partner the A&C organization, will take place from October 24 to December 15 at Kim Dong Cinema, 19 Hang Bai Street and at the institute, 56-58 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street.

This year, the SFF focuses on renewable energies and sustainability.

In addition to the event's Pre-Opening on 24th, the institute will also hold a public opening on October 26 at 2 p.m. with the Vietnam premier of the award-winning film "Chasing Ice" which explores how climate change alters our earth via an expedition to the Arctic.

The Science Film Festival will also present the film "Mekong" by Director Douglas Varchol about the impact of water power plants on the lives of inhabitants in the Mekong area in Vietnam, followed by a panel discussion with experts at 7 p.m. on November 11 at the institute.

Free tickets are now available at the Goethe Institute.

The international art film festival Nos Yeux Grands Ouverts (NYGO) will present 11 short movies in this year's competition. The screening will be started at 7 p.m. on October 25 at DocLab Hanoi, 56-58 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street.

Admission is free.
