The Vietnam National Library is holding an exhibition to celebrate the 150th birthday of late Austrian painter Gustav Klimt, best known for his painting "The Kiss."
The "Gustav Klimt Forerunner of Modernism 150th Anniversary" exhibition will show 15 posters telling the life and career of the painter and exhibits copies of four of his paintings, including "The Kiss," the original version of which is now kept at a Vienna museum and is widely considered a masterpiece of the early modern period by Klimt (18621918).
Held between June 15 and 24 on the library premises at 31 Trang Thi Street in Hanoi, the exhibition also marks the 40th year of Vietnam-Austria relations.
"The Kiss" is a popular image in Vietnam, and can be found on canvases, lacquer works, plates, coffee mugs and other artifacts.
Klimt is also known for many landscape paintings and portraits of high society women that are said to reflect a "unique eroticism and psychological depth."
