Mai Thi Giang, 21, edged out the other two finalists on November 25 to become the third winner of Vietnam Next Top's Model, a local adaptation of the highly rated US reality show America's Next Top Model.

Giang outshone Kha My Van and Cao Thi Thien Trang in the catwalk and photo shoot challenges, walking away with a cash prize of VND200 million (around US$9,600), a VND2 billion contract with Ho Chi Minh City modeling agency Be U Model Management, as well as other prizes.

Giang is 1.77 meters tall and was born in the northern port city of Hai Phong. She recently graduated with a degree in banking from Hai Phong University.

"As a newcomer to the modeling industry, I want to consider today's victory as a stepping stone for further improvement," Giang told VnExpress after her winning moment.

"I'm so happy now," she added.

"I think Giang's victory is very deserving since she met the standards of confidence and uniqueness," Van, 23, the first runner-up and netizens' bet for the win said, adding that she regretted mistakes she made during the photo shoot challenge.

Trang, 19, winner of one of the contest's minor programs Top Model Online finished third overall after being eliminated after the catwalk challenge.

The season finale also featured the other twelve contestants from this year's top 15, including Duong Thi Thanh, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Thuy, Nguyen Thi Nha Truc, as well as last year's winner and second runner-up, Hoang Thi Thuy and Le Thi Thuy respectively.

The 2012 Vietnam's Next Top Model finale took place at Lanh Binh Thang Stadium in District 11, Ho Chi Minh City and was broadcast live on VTV3.

The first and second season winners, Khieu Thi Huyen Trang in 2010 and Thuy in 2011, have since won awards at international modeling contests and performed at several international and domestic fashion shows.

The America's Next Top Model, created by international supermodel and talk show host Tyra Banks, has been on the air since 2003 with 19 seasons.
