A contemporary theatrical production of "Gulliver's Travels" is coming to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City next month.

Director Paul Stebbings has updated his successful 1996 adaptation of the world famous book by Jonathan Swift "to challenge modern audiences and provide a sparkling evening of satire that promises to tickle the belly and trouble the mind," according to a press release from the American Drama Group Europe.

International artists from the TNT Theater (UK) and the American Drama Group will be performing the play in English with Vietnamese subtitles at 8 p.m. on May 8 at the Hanoi Opera House and at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. on May 10 and 11 at the HCMC Opera House.

"TNT rescues this literary masterpiece from the pygmies who tried to turn it into a juvenile entertainment and create a play that asks us the very mature questions that Swift was posing three hundred years ago: what is the moral basis of government? What is the value of money? What is the aim of science? And finally, when humans behave like vicious animals why should they be valued higher than beasts?" said the release.

Though the themes of "Gulliver's Travels" are deeply serious, the play itself is a comedy.

The TNT production, which is currently on an eight-month tour of Europe and Asia, employs acrobatics, stilts, live music and razor sharp dialogue to explore Swift's masterpiece.

Tickets for both the Hanoi and HCMC evening performances cost VND600,000 for adults, while tickets for the morning show cost VND500,000 for adults. Tickets for students cost VND300,000.
