Two German cyclists have arrived in Hanoi after making the 11 month journey from Europe completely by bicycle, according to a column on the government website Saturday.
Nicole Franke, 27, and her boyfriend Tobias Pieper, 29, said their arrival was special as Hanoi was about to mark its 1,000th birthday.
The couple, who plan to visit Ha Long Bay, said they had a very good first impression of Vietnam and its people.
In March last year they decided to travel the world by bicycle. They started at Oldenburg in Germany where they had met each other as college students.
Franke and Pieper brought with them 60 kilograms of supplies, including foods, tents, nets, utensils, a medical kit, a digital camera, clothes and tools.
They passed through passed 15 countries, deserts and mountains on the 16,700 kilometer journey to the Vietnamese capital.
