German conductor to lead HCMC Symphony Orchestra

The Goethe Institute Vietnam will organize a concert conducted by Christian Schumann and featuring the HCMC Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) at the city's Opera House on Sep 9.

Schumann will lead the orchestra in its performance of masterpieces by Johannes Brahms, Dimitri Schostakowich, Giuseppe Verdi, and Ludwig van Beethoven.

The evening will inclue the Academic Festival Overture, Concerto for piano and orchester No. 2, Requiem & Dies Irae from "Requiem", and Choral Fantasy for piano, choir and orchestra.

Schumann was born in Freiburg to Hungarian parents and had his first piano lessons at the age of six. 

He was accepted for preparatory classes in piano as a schoolboy at the Freiburg Conservatory and graduated with a degree in conducting and composition from the Franz Liszt Conservatory in 2007.

He has already led such internationally renowned orchestras as the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra London.
