Professor Ahn Kyong Hwan of Chosun University will translate a biography of General Vo Nguyen Giap, the architect of the Dien Bien Phu victory over the French colonialist army, into Korean.

The South Korean academic said he was currently translating Vo Nguyen Giap - Nhung nam thang khong the nao quen (Vo Nguyen Giap - The Unforgettable Era) by writer Huu Mai.

"I'll release the book as soon as possible,"Ahn told Tuoi Tre newspaper.

General Giap, who began his career as a journalist and history teacher, eventually became one of the founders of the Viet Minh and the chief military strategist behind the defeat of both the French and US forces.

Prof. Ahn has translated other Vietnamese works into Korean as well, including Nhat ky trong tu (Prison Diary) by late President Ho Chi Minh, Truyen Kieu (The Tale of Kieu) by Nguyen Du, and Nhat ky Dang Thuy Tram (The Diary of Dang Thuy Tram).

The Korean scholar completed his doctoral thesis on Vietnamese at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities in 1996.
