Top Filipino musical theater performers Joanna Ampil and Rachelle Gerodias will make their Vietnamese debuts this week as part of two special concerts, reported Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper Saturday.
Themed "Vietnam Philippines Friendship," the shows will take place at the Hanoi Opera House on March 19 and the Ho Chi Minh City Opera House on March 21.
Ampil has performed in several West End musicals, including Miss Saigon, Jesus Christ Superstar and Avenue Q.
The first Filipino to work with the great Italian opera diva, Mirella Freni, Gerodias has played the lead in more than 20 different productions in the US, Japan and the Asia Pacific region.
Ampil and Gerodias, together with local singer Duc Tuan,violinist Bui Cong Duy and the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra will perform portions of Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, Les Misérables, Wicked, Sunset Boulevard, and La Boheme.
The events were organized jointly by the Vietnam Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Philippines Department of Tourism and are sponsored by Cebu Pacific Airlines.
