Dominante, one of the most well-known mixed choirs in Finland, will perform at Hanoi's Youth Theater on March 6.

According to a Vietnamplus report, the concert, part of the choir's Asian tour, will feature well-known musical masterpieces.

The choir's website (www.dominante.fi) states that Dominante was founded in 1975 as a student choir within the boundaries of the Helsinki University of Technology's campus. Today, it consists mostly of students from Aalto University, the University of Helsinki and the Sibelius Academy.

Dominante has been conducted by Artistic Director Seppo Murto, one of the most prominent Finnish organists and choir leaders, since 1981. The conductor was nominated for Choral Conductor of the Year in 2001 by the Finnish Choral Conductors' Association.

Over the last 30 years, Dominante has become a sought after choral performer in Finland thanks to its versatile repertoire, ranging from traditional to ultramodern choral music and from musicals to orchestral works.

Recently Dominante has worked with the Finnish National Opera, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Helsinki Philharmonia, Tapiola Sinfonietta, and the Lahti Symphony Orchestra, and under several conductors including Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Leif Segerstam and Helmuth Rilling.

The choir has also been on several world tours. They performed at the Royal Albert Hall of London together with the Lahti Symphony Orchestra and Osmo Vänskä as part of the BBC Proms festival in 2007.

The Finnish choir has also appeared in more than 20 recordings, including the recordings of the complete works of Jean Sibelius for the BIS record label in 2010. Its latest cappella recording titled Lempeä won the Record of the Year award from the Finnish Choral Directors' Association in 2009.

Dominante also encourages its members to participate in vocal group activities and many of the choir's quartets and quintets have won prizes in national contests.

Tickets are available at the Vietnam Performing Arts Center, 6th floor, Nguyen Thai Hoc Street, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi.

The Youth Theater is located at 11 Ngo Thi Nham Street.
