More than 200 youth gathered at the Noi Bai airport yesterday, September 30, to welcome their idols, Westlife, who arrived in Vietnam for a performance in Hanoi on October 1.
The fans braved the bad weather to be at the airport a few hours early to meet the famous Irish singers. A girl walking on crutches drew much attention, carrying Ireland's national flag to greet the visitors.
Many girls cried and screamed when the band members arrived at around 4 p.m.
Khanh Ha, a student of Viet Duc High School, said had not slept the previous night because of nervousness over meeting Westlife.
"At all costs, I will be at the My Dinh Stadium tomorrow. This is the chance of a lifetime."
It took more than 20 bodyguards nearly 20 minutes to extricate Westlife from the eager fans.
According to the organizers, An Thuan Media and Alatca Media, Westlife will hold no meetings with local fans as expected. They will only attend a press conference held before showtime.
The organizers also said that they have prepared many back-up plans for the show in case of bad weather caused by the heavy storms in northern provinces recently.
And more than expected, Westlife did exhilarated the local fans in their first-ever show in Vietnam.
The music show's good organization in sound system, well-arranged stage and successfully preventing black market's tickets also left a good impression in both viewers and performers.
Vietnm is the 11th stop on their "Gravity" world tour that also includes other Asian countries like China, Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Korea.
